Mazā Bezdelīgu Street to be closed due to reconstruction of junction of Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and Daugavgrīvas Street
When the Cable Bridge was built in the 1980s, the organisation of traffic on the left bank was not fully implemented and the project was not completed behind the Zunda Channel, E.Strods emphasised. Therefore, the Transport Department plans to significantly improve the organisation of traffic on the left bank of the Daugava near the Cable Bridge in the coming years.
The technical director of ACB un tilti, Dzintars Pommers, introduced the press to what had been done in the project and its further plans. Construction works on the left bank of the Daugava started in November, last year, and so far the bases of the carriageways and pavements have been built. Now the construction of supports of overpasses is underway.
To be able to continue the construction works and to build engineering communications in the depth of six metres, we need to close Mazā Bezdelīgu Street, D.Pommers stressed.
Drivers should take into account that traffic in Mazā Bezdelīgu Street will be closed as of Saturday, January 28. Therefore, drivers are asked to use a bypass and to go from Uzvaras Boulevard to Kalnciema Street in Daugavgrīvas Street up to its crossing with Krēslas Street, then to turn about and to take Daugavgrīvas Street in the opposite direction to its crossing with K.Valdemāra Street.
To increase the transport capacity, the duration of green lights at the crossing of Daugavgrīvas Street and Bezdelīgu Street will be increased for drivers.
Riga residents and guests should also take into consideration the following changes in public transport traffic. Trolleybus No. 9 will run to Iļģuciems by the route to Raņķa dambis, then in Raņķa dambis, across the Zunda Bridge, in Zunda embankment to its connection with Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, in the turnabout below the Cable Bridge, in Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and further by the route. The trolleybus will not stop at Press House (the stop for the public transport going to the city centre), but will stop at Ķīpsala stop in the direction of Pārdaugava. Workday and holiday schedules will be also changed accordingly.
Buses No. 22, 32, 35 and 43 will run from the city centre by the route to Uzvaras Boulevard, then in Slokas Street, Kalnciema Street and further by the route. Bus stop Kalnciema Street on the way from the city centre (in Raņķa dambis) will be closed for the above buses, yet on the way from the city centre the buses will stop at the existing stops of bus No. 54: A.Grīna Boulevard, Nometņu Street and Kalnciema Street (all located in Slokas Street).
Minibus No. 242 will run from the city centre by the route to Raņķa dambis, then in Krēslas Street, Daugavgrīvas Street, Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and further by the route.
The project is due to be finished until the end of 2013, therefore drivers should take into account that traffic will be hindered during the construction works on the left bank of the Daugava near the Cable Bridge.
